Position Objective: Profit Center Manager for one of the largest wholesale plumbing distribution companies in the United States, with this position focused on commercial wholesale distribution.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the strategic direction of the business
    • Defining which market segments within the plumbing sector to pursue
    • Defining core competencies and value proposition in the market
    • Aligning vendor relationships with the vision and the organization
  • Assess the existing staff and its capabilities, align organization structure and talent assessment with the vision for the business, adjust as appropriate
  • Responsible for the entire spectrum of the Profit Center’s operation to achieve agreed upon financial metrics.  These metrics include, but are not limited to sales growth, customer relationship maintenance and development, gross profit margins, asset management, and expense control.  Success is defined by Return on investment at the location, and profit sharing (a percentage of operating income above a minimum ROI) is earned and shared with all eligible employees at the profit center
  • Direct and Control the Outside and Inside Sales staff
  • Direct and Control the Warehouse and Truck Driver staff
  • Direct and Manage the Purchasing function
  • Direct and Manage the Administrative staff and their activities.
  • Manage the business through monthly analysis of financial reports to determine the success and failure of plans and programs initiated to accomplish certain goals; and then take actions as appropriate to adjust to the results
  • Works effectively with customers, staff and management
  • Performs such other duties as may be required

Experience:

  • Must have a minimum of 3-5 years of profit center or equivalent management experience, with proven success against goals
  • Must know the building products industry; preferably plumbing and preferably wholesale distribution, but manufacturing or retail experience will be considered
  • Must have had previous profit & loss responsibility

Education:

College degree preferred; all majors considered; and practical experience with demonstrated accomplishment will be considered as an alternative to a college degree.
