Vice President Safety and Environmental

In a newly elevated role reporting to the COO, this dynamic corporate leader will develop, implement and oversee all safety and environmental initiatives in a complex multi-site manufacturing environment, building a stronger behavior-based safety culture and developing the company’s environmental program.

Our client is a worldwide market-leading designer and builder of custom trailers and specialty vehicles used for moving and storage, snack food and package delivery, mobile medical, television/broadcast, military/government, mobile marketing, motorsports and other niche markets. With a broad range of products and customization, this company enjoys a strong financial position, dominance across a range of specialty markets and a strategic trajectory that includes both organic and acquisition growth.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assess the Company’s current state in all Safety and Environmental areas across each of the Company’s operating divisions and locations
  • Identify all safety and environmental regulatory standards affecting the manufacturing process and define a consistent reporting and compliance process for all facilities
  • Work with all facilities to identify injury frequency and cost reduction strategies and plans for implementation and reporting
  • Educate and influence facility leaders to promote a Safety-First environment in all manufacturing tasks, implementing best practices with the objective of reducing overall claims frequency and costs
  • Establish an overall behavior-based training strategy with consistent standards and protocols that promote Safety-First as a core value across the organization
  • Work with on-site Safety Coordinators to ensure consistent implementation of all safety standards and protocols
  • Implement a formalized development plan for Safety Coordinators as individuals and as a team
  • Develop and ensure adequate and meaningful safety accountability systems are in place across the organization (i.e., injury, chargeback process, safety audit system, performance evaluation measures, TRIR, DART, documentation and safety calendar compliance)
  • Protect the company’s interests through timely and cost-effective oversight of regulatory visits, complaints, violations and citations

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years Safety/Environmental leadership in a high-risk multi-site mfg. environment
  • Proven track record of success in implementation and leadership of behavior-based safety culture with strong metric improvement
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulatory requirements, safety and environmental programs, standards and protocols
  • Strategic thinker and hands-on implementer
  • Team building and leadership skill, managing, mentoring, and holding team accountable
  • Ability to lead and manage change, “selling” programs internally and getting buy-in
  • Experience developing and implementing behavior-based training programs
  • Process, Procedure and Metrics driven, with ability to analyze data and identify trends
  • Strong communication skill at all levels and in all forms – written, oral, presentation
  • Computer skills: MS Office, (Grainger on-line safety training)
  • Bachelors required, post-graduate degree a plus
